Brief Description of Smithsonian Support Center
Door Replacement:
In March of 2004, the Fort Berthold Development Corporation
was awarded the Door Replacement project at the Smithsonian
Support Center in three (3) different Pods. Pods 1 and
2 have standard security but Pod 3 has a high security
due to explosive materials within the Pod. The project
entails removal and replacement of 18 pairs of 3 hour
rated pre-painted metal doors and hardware. In association
with replacing the doors additional work is needed.
That is, relocating the smoke detectors, adding a timer
releases, magnetic hold opens, controls for electric
locks, fire alarm controls, and a card reader. The magnetic
hold opens are supported with a specially designed steel
support. The magnetic hold opens are placed to hold
the doors open at various different angles. Close detail
was needed to ensure the proper angle. In Pod 3 the
materials must be explosion proof. FBDC had to construct
a sealed barrier to ensure the safety of our work forces
as well as the SSC’S employees. FBDC is working
closely with the SSC and the ACOE to ensure security
and safety of the items within the Pod Storage Area.
